Shawn Carter, famously known as Jay Z is currently being accused of raping a 13 year old girl along with disgraced rapper Sean Diddy Combs after the 2000s MTV video music awards. The anonymous victim, going as “Jane Doe” alleges that the assault happened after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party. The federal lawsuit was originally filed by Texas based attorney, Tony Buzbee, in October in the Southern District of New York, listing Combs as a defendant. The suit was refiled on Sunday to include Carter.

Jay Z issued a statement following the news. He claims his lawyer received a blackmail attempt from Buzbee, claiming that he had calculated the nature of the allegations and that public scrutiny would eventually make Jay Z settle the lawsuit. Jay Z went ahead to say that he would not settle out of court and instead “expose” Buzbee for being a fraud publicly.

“The New York times contacted me to ask for my response to rapper Jay Z’s allegation that I tried to extort and blackmail him. My response is pretty straightforward. No one has made any threats,” Buzbee wrote. “Jay Z’s assertions are bogus and laughable. Instead our firm sent a standard demand letter seeking a mediation on behalf of a woman who alleges Jay Z sexually assaulted her as a minor. The letter was vetted and approved by our client, whose preference was to attempt resolution short of filing a lawsuit.”

Buzbee claims that Jay Z calling him a fraud is an attempt to focus the attention on him to avoid being held accountable for the allegations against him. Buzbee also accuses Jay Z of harassment. “This effort has included harassing my family and colleagues and even offering former clients money to sue me – which is illegal.” Buzbee claims Jay Z is “aggressively” using the media to attack him while at the same time ignoring the allegations being made by the alleged victim.

Buzbee concludes by writing, “We intend to address all these issues with the court in due course. Let me be clear : We will not be bullied or intimidated by these shenanigans. And our clients won’t be silenced.”
