On her 43rd birthday, December 2, 2024, pop icon Britney Spears announced that she has moved to Mexico. In an Instagram video, Spears revealed the driving force behind her decision: escaping the relentless paparazzi. "It really kind of hurts my feelings that the paparazzi make my face look like I’m wearing, like a white Jason mask. It doesn’t even look like me," she shared. She described the paparazzi’s treatment as "extremely mean and cruel," adding, "I know I’m not perfect at all by any means, but they’ve always been incredibly cruel to me. And that’s why I’ve moved to Mexico."
The move coincided with another major milestone: the official end of her marriage to Sam Asghari. Spears and Asghari, who had been married for a little over a year, finalized their divorce earlier in 2024, but their legal singlehood was officially recognized on Britney's birthday. The couple’s relationship began in 2016, with their wedding taking place in 2022 shortly after Britney’s conservatorship was terminated.
Sam Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023, describing the decision as mutual and uncontested. In a public statement, he expressed, "We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other, and I wish her the best always." Reflecting on their relationship, he later shared, "You learn so much from being in relationships in general. She’s an amazing person and a huge part of my life."
Britney also shared a lighter moment in a separate video on the same day, humorously saying, "I’m turning 5 this year. I’m turning 5 years old, and I have to go to kindergarten tomorrow." This dual announcement marks a new chapter for Britney Spears as she continues to navigate life in the spotlight, now seeking solace and privacy in Mexico.
