Yung Miami and JT- former city girls rappers first gained mainstream recognition after appearing on Drake’s “in my feelings” song with Yung Miami appearing in the music video. Their first studio album, Girl Code which was released in 2018 contained songs like “Twerk” and “Act up” which were platinum certified singles and received certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Despite their mainstream recognition, the artists begun falling apart and now rapper Yung Miami is breaking her silence by telling fans the truth about what really happened behind the scenes and what led them to pursuing solo careers. After the release of their last album, RAW, was met with critics and poor response from the general public, the two were forced to re-evaluate their relationship as a rap duo.

“The whole rollout for the album was bad because we were just in two different spaces. You know, like, we older now and JT was doing her own thing. She on the West Coast, I’m in Miami. I’m doing my thing. And l felt like naturally, when she doing her own thing, it just worked for her. And when I’m doing my own thing, it worked for me. But when we got together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting. It just wasn’t working no more. So l think we both was at a point where we were just like, ‘We probably should just do our own shit.”’

Yung Miami also stated that she would use all the negativity from critics as motivation to becoming a better individual. For many years, JT has been considered the talented rapper out of the two, while Yung Miami was considered a vibrant and fan’s favourite member of the group, who could do well as an influencer rather than a rapper.
